The Wonderful Benefits of Coconut Juice

Coconut juice has tremendous benefits for health.

Don't be put off by the rock hard shell - it's relatively easy to extract the coconut water first and then the flesh for juicing.
And juicing the flesh with the water added makes a wonderfully tasty and nourishing drink. You can also turn coconut juice into ice lollies for the kids, or add strawberries or peaches for a frozen coconut milk recipe if they like their juice sweeter.
Within this article you'll find some very simple recipes and instructions on how to extract the coconut water and the flesh for juicing. Plus some information on using coconut oil for health.
But first the benefits of coconut juice.

Diabetes Relieves symptoms and reduces associated health risks
Immune System Fights colds and flu viruses and is effective against the AIDS virus, Hepatitis C, SARS, herpes and measles. Also good for sore throats.
Digestive Health Attacks and expels intestinal parasites, effective for stomach ulcers and urinary tract infections. Improves bowel function.
Cancer Used regularly, it helps protect against cancer, especially breast cancer and colon cancer.
Weight Loss and Energy Promotes weight loss by increasing metabolic rate, and is also used by active and sports people for extra energy supply.
Heart Health Protects arteries from atherosclerosis and is a friend to the healthy heart.
What You Get
Coconuts contain a tremendous range of nutrients including Vitamins A, B, C, Niacin, Riboflavin, Calcium, Iron and Phosphorous.
Coconut Milk Recipes
For the kids add strawberries or peaches to sweeten. You can turn the juice into ice lollies by using freezer moulds.

How to Juice a Coconut
For great coconut juice, first use a sharp tool such as a corkscrew to open two of the three "eyes".
Widen the hole and drain the water into a bowl to use later.
Take a heavy butcher's knife and, using the back, tap around the circumference. The coconut shell should break in two. I prefer to take the nut outside and deal a hefty blow with a small machete axe!
Separate the white flesh from the shell using a knife carefully. This is actually quite easy if you've used the machete system above!
Cut the flesh into chunks and place in a food processor with the coconut water and a little extra water. Normally we do not recommend using a blender to make juices if you have a masticating juicer, but coconut flesh is tough on juicers and can put too much strain on the screen net's plastic casing (I use a twin gear masticating juicer).
Spoon the chopped coconut and all of the liquid into your juicer and press go. You can of course use a centrifugal juicer if you don't have the higher quality masticating juicer. With the latter, you get a dry pulp left over which can be used in bread making, as a skin exfoliant scrub, or feeding the chickens!

Cocunut Oil Benefits
As well as juicing coconut flesh to make nutritious coconut juice, we buy tubs of pure coconut oil for skin and hair care. Others use this for cooking because it has a high melting point, stable enough to resist heat-induced damage and better than even olive oil for cooking.
Coconut oil is brilliant for skin and hair. Leave it in your hair for a day or so - you can feel it doing the follicles and hair strength the world of good.
And you can't find a better moisturizer - all natural of course!
