Influenza and Kidney Failure

Influenza Can Cause Kidney Failure

IN the body, the kidneys play a key role. Not only filter blood and cleanse the body of waste, but also maintain the balance of electrolyte levels, controlling blood pressure, and stimulates the production of red blood cells.

Influenza and Kidney Failure

The kidneys are located behind the stomach, the left and right of the spine. The kidneys receive blood supply through the renal arteries directly srteri-dam of the aorta send blood back to the heart via the renal veins.

Glomerulonephritis is a common kidney disease called renal inflammation. Kidney disease is commonly referred to as kidney inflammation. The disease is characterized by inflammation of the kidney glomeruli part. This condition can occur when the body's immune system is paralyzed.

Antibodies and other substances in the blood stream to form particles are trapped in the glomeruli. This causes inflammation and makes the glomeruli can not work properly. Glomerulonephritis is the biggest cause of end-stage renal disease than hypertension, polycystic kidney disease, kidney disease obstruction and infection.

Glomerulonephritis can strike all ages, both children and adults. In children, glomerulonephritis generally occurs at the age of 5-10 years. Whereas in adults usually occurs at age 20-30 years. Keep in mind, glomerulonephritis is a major cause of end stage renal failure

Germs and Viruses

Glomerulonephritis is divided into several types, namely acute and chronic. Acute glomerulonephritis occurs suddenly without prior symptoms. Whereas chronic glomerulonephritis is chronic and cause recurrent infections. According to dr. Agatha Lita Kapojos, Sp.PD of Taruma Royal Hospital, West Jakarta, the main cause of glomerulonephritis is germs.

"The main cause of acute glomerulonephritis is an infection of staphylococcal bacteria," he said.

But not all of glomerulonephritis caused by germs or bacteria. Still there are other causes, among other things, viruses and parasites. The virus in question, among others, the hepatitis B virus, vanisula, and influenza virus. While the parasites that can cause this disease is malaria and toxoplasma.

As already mentioned, the main function of the kidneys is to filter out substances that are contained in the body. Germs and viruses are also filtered out, so then trapped in the kidneys and cause kidney inflammation.
"Antibodies are blood circulation will lead to the kidneys and then filtered in that place. Germs that are trapped will be mixed with other antibodies," he explained.

When the body has attacked various germs and viruses, and even parasites, the body will form antibodies. Antoimun ensued and make the body react wrong.

Symptoms may last glomerulonephritis sudden or chronic. Even the often unknown because no symptoms. There are several symptoms that arise, among others, nausea, anemia or anemia, urine color that resembles dishwater meat, headache, and bruising on the face especially in the morning.

"At first, the symptoms will occur only swelling around the eyes and face. But in time they can be assigned to others also," he continued.

There are also other accompanying symptoms such as body feels weak and no appetite.

Diagnosis and Treatment.

Diagnosis is based on clinical symptoms and laboratory tests. In this laboratory, examined the patient's urine to see if there is albumin in it or not.

"Will C3 examination to see whether the patient's urine contains high protein or not," he said.

Just so you know, because the kidneys are not functioning properly, the protein is also dissolved into the urine and are not filtered by the kidneys.

Glomerulonephritis treatment depends on the cause of the disease, whether acute or chronic, the severity of kidney damage, and the patient's age and comorbidities.

For acute glomerulonephritis, the treatment is intended to help eliminate excess fluid and controlling high blood pressure. Long-term therapies is needed only for end-stage renal failure, which is the way a kidney transplant.

How to prevent it

Penicillin type antibiotics aimed at eliminating all residual infection. Antibiotics do not affect the severity of glomerulonephritis, but reduce the spread of staphylococcal infections that may still exist.

"Giving antibiotics for 10 days to eliminate the remnants of the germs that are still present in the body, particularly the kidneys," he said.

It is also advisable for patients to rest approximately one month to recover and kidney conditions. Treatment depends on the severity of the disease, causes, and symptoms.

In addition, glomerulonephritis can also be prevented by managing a healthy lifestyle, reduce coffee, alcohol, cigarettes, and increase drinking water.
